Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
