Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents his maiden title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to force a third set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
